What is Bowen?

Bowen therapy is a gentle, non-invasive technique that focuses on stimulating the body's natural healing processes. It involves a series of precise moves over specific muscle groups and fascia, promoting relaxation and pain relief. This therapy can address a variety of physical ailments, improve mobility, and enhance overall well-being.

The Bowen Move

1. Stretch

We stretch superficial fascia to impact the surrounding tissues and underlying structures while directing the move within the appropriate space.

2. Challenge

Nervous system receptors along the muscles, tendons, and fascial lines are challenged to change what they "feel" and communicate to the rest of the body.

3. Move

By rolling over the receptors that are being stimulated we affect the information it interprets, interrupting dysfunctional signal patterns.

What can Bowen do for you?

Improve pain
Reduce inflammation
Improve mobility
Improve mood
Improve sleep
Improve digestion

Bowen therapy influences the nervous system embedded throughout our connective tissue, or fascia. The nervous system impacts our sleep, mood, digestion, and pain feedback loops.

Pain is the nervous system interpreting signals of potential or actual tissue damage or inflammation. By stimulating the parasympathetic nervous system, the one that helps calm you after exposure to stress, the interpretation of these signals can improve.  This can also mitigate inflammatory pathways, improving inflammatory conditions.

When we are exposed to trauma or inflammation our fascia loses hyaluronic acid causing it to become rigid and immobile. Bowen therapy aims to bring fluidity back to these structures, loosening any restrictions preventing mobility and causing pain.
