Fascia is the connective tissue that surrounds and supports muscles, organs, and other structures within the body. It is composed of collagen fibers and plays a crucial role in providing stability, flexibility, and strength to various body systems. Fascia helps transmit force, allows for movement, and aids in the overall function of multiple body systems, especially our musculoskeletal. Proper fascia health is essential for overall well-being and can influence posture, mobility, and pain levels.

What is Fascia?

Why is it important?

It's everywhere!

Fascia is not only the connective tissue that lies beneath our skin or surrounds our muscles and organs; fascia extends its web like matrix down to a microscopic level creating the "extracellular matrix" that surrounds every cell in the body.

It impacts pain and mobility

Fascia contains a water-binding gel called hyaluronic acid that enables smooth gliding of muscles and tissues. When fascia is exposed to injury or inflammation it changes the concentration of this acid potentially leading to discomfort and limited mobility. This tension can then create a cycle of pain, impacting our overall physical function.

It influences emotions
and well-being

There is an emerging understanding that not only do our emotions affect our physical posture but the reverse is true as well. Fascia holds millions of nerve endings and transmits a variety of neurotransmitters. This enables the tissue to play a crucial role in emotional regulation influenced by stagnancy and movement of the body.

So how can we support our fascial health?

Fascia is a remarkable connective tissue that is fluid and dynamic, adapting to the movements and stresses placed upon it. As the body moves, this intricate web of fibers responds by changing its tension and structure, facilitating seamless motion and communication throughout the body. Its ability to shift and flow plays a key role in our body's ability to adapt and recover.

Bowen is merely one piece of the puzzle.

Here are a few other ways you can promote fascial well-being:

1. Daily movement and stretching

2. Proper posture

3.  Staying hydrated

4. Other forms of myofascial release - foam rolling, etc.
